With LeBron the big prize, free agency set to open
The day the league might begin to change forever.
"I think the landscape could really shift," former Phoenix general manager Steve Kerr said.
Shopping season starts at 12:01 a.m. EDT Thursday with James as the biggest prize, a two-time MVP just reaching his prime and one of the most sought-after players ever to hit the free agent market in any sport.
There's so much more.
Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, James' classmates from the 2003 draft — and future teammates in Miami if they choose. Perennial All-Stars such as Dirk Nowitzki, Amare Stoudemire and Joe Johnson.
NBA champions and Olympic gold medalists, now in search of something else for their collections: a maximum-salary contract. And teams are positioned at the starting line, just waiting for the race to start.
"We've never had anything like this in my time that I can remember," New Jersey Nets president Rod Thorn said. "There have been big-time free agents before, but never this many teams that are trying to woo them. So it's unprecedented."
Thorn is headed to Ohio, where James will welcome suitors to his home state Thursday. He'll be joined by new owner Mikhail Prokhorov, coach Avery Johnson and hip-hop superstar Jay-Z, a part-owner and James' longtime friend.
Then it's back home to make pitches the next day in New York to Wade wow gold and Bosh — though minus Jay-Z. (Sorry guys, the day job calls. He's touring in Europe).
The Knicks plan to drop in on LeBron, too. They can afford James and another max player, which might be what they need to finally get going again after a franchise-worst nine straight losing seasons.
"We've had to live through some tough times in order to get where you think you start rebuilding the franchise," team president Donnie Walsh said. "We have that opportunity now. How well, how fast we can rebuild the team can be shortcut by getting great players."
They'll have plenty of competition. The Heat, Nets, Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers can offer max deals to James' class, which would pay about $16.6 million next season. Chicago and New Jersey made trades in recent days to push them closer to joining the Knicks with enough to offer two max deals, and the Heat can keep Wade, give an additional max contract and have enough left over for another quality player.
So much for the theory that free agency isn't the route to building a winner in the NBA, where top players rarely leave because their teams can offer them more money. (James would give up about $30 million if he bolts Cleveland).
The Knicks traded away Jamal Crawford and Zach Randolph — the NBA's top sixth man and a first-time All-Star, respectively — to get their $34 million in room. New Jersey shipped out Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter in recent years, resulting buy wow gold in a 12-70 record but hope for a quick turnaround. Miami essentially left Wade to play by himself this season in exchange for the chance to get him more help then he could ever want starting Thursday.
"It is an 'all-in' strategy, in that even when it works, you're going to have to operate with a very low payroll," Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said. "If it doesn't work, it can be catastrophic in terms of if you strike out, it's going to be very difficult to be competitive. But every team is doing the best they can. That may be the best path they have available."
The potential crop made it too hard for some teams not to try.
The clock started ticking four summers ago, when James, Wade and Bosh passed on maximum-length extensions on their rookie contracts in favor of shorter deals that allowed them to opt for free agency this summer.
Momentum kept building as fears grew that owners will seek radical changes in length and value of contracts next summer when the league's collective bargaining agreement expires. That made it wise for a player like Nowitzki, even if he has no intention of leaving Dallas, to exercise his early termination option now and sign a new deal under the current rules.
Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo called it all "unprecedented" and a "unique set of circumstances that's got everyone into a frenzy" Monday during a radio interview with the Fan590 in Toronto, when he said it was likely Bosh would leave.
If the All-Star forward joins James, or Wade, or both, that team figures to become an immediate championship contender. Boston won the title the year after assembling its Big Three — which could now be broken up with Ray Allen on the market — and the Lakers have reached the finals every year since acquiring Pau Gasol to complement Kobe Bryant.
Numerous teams are now dreaming of similar pairings.
"You look at the teams that have an awful lot of cap space, there could be a lot of power shifting in this league," Minnesota coach Kurt Rambis said.
Deals can be agreed to but can't be signed until July 8. The process often goes quickly but this year that's probably up to James and his advisers, because teams in the running for him probably won't move on to Plan B until they know his intentions. With so many potential good options, he might want to take his time.
"I think the free agents are corporations and there's a process that all of them have to go through who are members of the corporation. Mom, agent, lawyer, doctor, daughter, son, husband, all these people are part of it, so I don't think it's an individual decision anymore," Hall of Famer Julius Erving said.
"I think the stakes are so high, contracts are so big, it's not an individual decision and it's not a decision you just let an agent make anymore."
With free agency turning into must-see TV, NBA TV will air a live special starting at midnight, and the Knicks' MSG network will debut a show at the same time.
After years of jockeying by teams, anticipation by the players and speculation by the media, it's time to get started.
"It's what we live for," Dallas Mavericks president cheap wow gold Donnie Nelson said. "It's fun."

Villa the difference as Spain beats Portugal 1-0
On a night when Portugal's defense fought off attack after attack, the Spanish striker finally broke through in the 63rd minute, giving the European champs a 1-0 victory Tuesday and a spot in the World Cup quarterfinals.
Villa took Xavi Hernandez' heel pass and struck a left-footed shot that was saved by Portuguese goalkeeper Eduardo.
He then fired the rebound with his right foot off the underside of the crossbar and into the net — his fourth goal of the tournament — sprinted to the near corner and slid on his knees to the flag, letting out a mighty yell.
"It was one of my best goals because it got us through to the next round," Villa said. "Keep scoring so we can keep going."
Spain plays Paraguay in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
While Villa is tied for the lead in scoring at the World Cup, it was a disappointing tournament for Cristiano Ronaldo, the world's most expensive player. His only goal came late in wow gold Portugal's 7-0 rout of North Korea in group play, and he had a quiet night against Spain.
His best attempt Tuesday came from a free kick in the 28th minute when he launched the ball from 35 yards with such a dipping swerve that all Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas could do was block it with his body and see the ball bounce free.
Otherwise, Portugal could rely little on its captain. As he was pointing left and right where his teammates should go, he often walked.
This was 33rd time the Iberian neighbors have met in soccer, but the first time in the World Cup. Spain has won 16 of the matches to Portugal's five.
Portugal went out of the tournament after conceding its first goal in four games.
"To lose by one goal in a championship hurts very badly," Eduardo said.
The game came two years to the buy wow gold day that Spain ended 44 years of international futility by winning the European title. The last defending European champ to also capture the World Cup was West Germany in 1974.
"The match was extremely intense," Spain coach Vicente del Bosque said. "In the second half, we were better than Portugal. We had greater depth in our play, and we controlled the game very well."
Spain was about teamwork, and it showed from the start. Fernando Torres and Villa immediately moved down the left, looking to exploit Portugal's defensive weakness at right back, where Ricardo Costa struggled. Within the first seven minutes, Eduardo had to make three quality saves to keep Portugal in the game on angled shots from Spain's two strikers.
"His performance was brilliant," Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz said of his goalkeeper. "He saved and kept the team fighting for the result."
Yet Spain moved on to an intricate passing game through the center of the field. Once Portugal's defense settled in it frustrated the Spanish, reducing them to long-range attempts by Gerard Pique.
Still, Villa knew a goal was coming."We never lost our confidence," Villa said. "We know cheap wow gold the potential we have and what we can give."

Brazil beats Chile 3-0 to reach WCup quarterfinals
Another three games like this and Brazil could be hoisting the real thing — yet again.
With an impressive mixture of symphony-like teamwork and standout individual plays, Brazil routed South American rival Chile 3-0 on Monday night to advance to the quarterfinals. The five-time champions will face the Netherlands, which earlier Monday defeated Slovakia 2-1, on Friday.
"Now it's a match between two traditional teams with great players," Brazil captain Lucio said. "Now the matches will get harder and harder."
Brazil's players were almost nonchalant after the victory as they shook hands and exchanged hugs. Who can blame them: reaching the later stages may as well be part of Brazil's World Cup itinerary.
Brazil has now reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup every time since the 1990 tournament in Italy, when it fell 1-0 to Diego Maradona's Argentina in the second round. Brazil coach Dunga and assistant coach Jorginho were starters in that Brazilian team.
The Brazilians won the 1994 and 2002 World Cups in that span.
"It was a very good performance for Brazil," playmaker Kaka said. "I'm happy with wow gold how we played. It shows that we are improving after each match, just as planned."
Chile hasn't beaten Brazil in a decade and didn't come close, freeing the folks in the stands to do the samba and the singing as the Brazilians moved closer to holding the real prize.
"When our opponent attacks like that, Brazil always creates a lot of chances," Luis Fabiano said. "That was exactly what happened today and we took advantage of that."
Juan opened the scoring in the 35th minute at Ellis Park Stadium with a firm header from near the penalty spot off a corner kick. Luis Fabiano added to the lead in the 38th, receiving a one-touch pass from Kaka and dribbling past goalkeeper Claudio Bravo inside the area before hitting the open net.
Robinho scored his first goal in the tournament with a shot from the top of the area in the 59th minute, a one-timer into the far corner. It was Robinho's seventh goal in Brazil's last six matches against the Chileans.
Chile is the first South American team eliminated. Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay are in the final eight, and Paraguay plays Japan on Tuesday.
"We leave the tournament knowing that we gave everything on the pitch," Bravo said. "We are a very fragile team at times. We attack very well, but we have to know when to defend."
The victory in front of nearly 55,000 fans at Ellis Park extended Brazil's dominance over Chile. It was the eighth consecutive win; the last loss to Chile was 3-0 in a 2000 qualifier for the 2002 World Cup.
Led by Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa, Chile kept pace with the Brazilians in the beginning, threatening with some quick ball movement on offense.
But Brazil quickly gained control of the match and buy wow gold created some of the most dangerous opportunities. After Juan's first goal, the Brazilians took advantage of their speedy strikers to keep the pressure on the Chileans.
Bravo already had to work hard on a long-range shot by Gilberto Silva, diving to his left and barely tipping the ball wide. A minute later, Kaka's low shot from the top of the area also missed.
Humberto Suazo, back in Chile's starting lineup after missing the loss to Spain, gave the Chileans their first opportunity in the 13th, but his shot from just outside the box was easily saved by goalkeeper Julio Cesar.
Chile was trying to advance past the second round for the first time since its home tournament in 1962, when it lost to eventual champion Brazil in the semifinals. Chile also lost to Brazil the last time it reached the round of 16, 4-1 in 1998 in France.
Brazil again was without regular Elano because of a right ankle injury, and coach Dunga also could not count on defensive midfielder Felipe Melo because of a left ankle problem. It didn't matter.
Kaka did not play against Portugal because of a red card in the previous match, while Robinho was rested because of a minor left thigh ailment. They certainly were ready Monday night.
Chile was without several starters, including central defenders Gary Medel and Waldo Ponce because of yellow card suspensions, while Marco Estrada was cheap wow gold suspended for being ejected against Spain.

Argentina beats Mexico 3-1 at World Cup
Carlos Tevez scored twice — once on a disputed goal — and Gonzalo Higuain added another as the Albiceleste beat Mexico 3-1 on Sunday to move into the quarterfinals.
"We're not here on vacation, we came here to leave everything so that the Argentines can be proud of us," coach Diego Maradona said.
With Mexico getting the best scoring chances early on, Tevez headed in a pass from Lionel Messi in the 26th minute from close in. One problem: He was clearly offside.
Referee Roberto Rosetti of Italy awarded the goal after consulting with his linesman, the pair surrounded by angrily gesturing Mexican and Argentine players.
Then in the 33rd minute, Higuain rounded the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 after Mexico's Ricardo Osorio, under no pressure, played the ball straight into his path. In the 52nd Tevez blasted in one of the tournament's best goal, an unstoppable shot from 25 yards.
"Two mistakes ... drastically changed the course of the game," Mexico coach Javier Aguirre said. "There was a before and after."
The call on Tevez's first goal came just hours after the referee at Germany's 4-1 win over England failed to recognize that a shot by England's Frank Lampard, which would have tied the wow gold score at 2-2 late in the first half, clearly made it across the goal line after striking the crossbar.
Argentina, which also beat Mexico in round of 16 four years ago now plays Germany in the quarterfinals. That's a rematch, too — a repeat of the 2006 quarterfinals, which the Germans won. The Germans also defeated Argentina in the 1990 World Cup final.
"We know Germany is a different team than the Mexico team we faced today," Maradona said. "It's more powerful, but we'll have the right players on the pitch to face them."
Mexico's Javier Hernandez scored in the 71st.
Tevez proved difficult for Mexico's buy wow gold defenders to handle, and Higuain — the leading scorer at the World Cup with four goals — should have added another but headed a cross wide from close range just before halftime.
Messi, one of the best playmakers in the tournament, again failed to score and struggled in midfield for much of the game. Still he came close: His shot in the 91st minute was tipped over the bar.
The Mexicans enjoyed the better chances as the game started, with Carlos Salcido's fierce shot shaking the crossbar in the eighth minute.
After Tevez's opening goal, though, the Argentines slowly began to control the game.
"We had trouble getting into the game in the first few minutes," Tevez said. "We knew Mexico was going to press from the onset, try to take the ball away from us in the first minutes and try to hurt us."
The Mexicans couldn't, and Argentina has won all four of its matches cheap wow gold in the tournament.

Aussies beat Serbia but miss out on last 16
The Socceroos hit back magnificently in the second half, rocking the Europeans with two goals in four minutes and shredding their highly-rated defence in their best performance of the tournament.
It was to prove in vain, though, as Ghana, despite their 1-0 loss to Germany in Johannesburg, went through to the second round on goal difference.
Everton midfelder Tim Cahill started it off for the Australians by outjumping Manchester United central defender Nemanja Vidic and heading home in the 69th minute before substitute Brett Holman thumped in a long-range shot four minutes later.
Substitute Marko Pantelic pulled one back with six minutes left, had another chalked off for offside and then put another one over the bar with the goal -- and a place in wow gold the last 16 -- at his mercy.
"I have mixed feelings now," Australia coach Pim Verbeek said.
"It was a great result and a great performance but we are not in the final 16.
"That was the plan when we came to South Africa, but it didn't work out that way and I cannot blame any one of the players, who worked very hard last week when everybody thought it was over.
"Four points was enough for Australia in Germany four years ago, but not this time."
Serbia had been favourites to advance after beating Germany 1-0, while Australia ended their ill-fated campaign on a winning note after being routed 4-0 by the Germans and drawing 1-1 with 10 men against Ghana.
"This was a game of good quality. I cannot reproach any of my players for their effort," Serbian coach Radomir Antic said.
"We had plenty of opportunities but in the end I think that we didn't get fair treatment. We deserved much more than we buy wow gold got. We have to go back home now."
Serbia looked the better team in a scoreless opening half, dominating possession and territory.
Right-winger Milos Krasic looked particularly dangerous and had two scoring chances but Australia saw off the threat.
Australia goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer made a great close-range block of Branislav Ivanovic's shot on 23 minutes after a David Carney error inside the area.
Australia's attack was well corralled by Vidic, with the Serb back four winning virtually all the aerial duels.
Krasic had the ball in the net on 38 minutes but was flagged offside.
Australia picked up two yellow cards with defenders Michael Beauchamp and Luke Wilkshire going into the referee's book early in the second half.
Antic took off Krasic just after the hour and brought on Zoran Tosic as Australia began to have more of the play.
Verbeek made a double substitution by throwing on attackers Scott Chipperfield and Brett Holman on 66 minutes and it was to pay swift dividends.
Brett Emerton became the third Australian booked for a 50-50 challenge on Milos Ninkovic as Antic took off giant striker Nikola Zigic and brought on Pantelic.
Australia's persistence finally paid off on 69 minutes when Cahill outjumped Vidic from Wilkshire's cross and headed home past the despairing Vladimir Stojkovic.
Holman let fly with a low, long-range strike four minutes later to put Australia 2-0 ahead to a roar from the huge Australian support.
But Pantelic grabbed one back after Schwarzer could not cleanly cheap wow gold claim Tosic's volley, before fluffing his lines by shooting over in injury time with the goal gaping.

USA, Germany and England through, Ghana survive
Ghana, the continent's last real hope, lost 1-0 to Germany after a thundering 60th minute strike by Mesut Ozil, but finished second in Group D thanks to the Socceroos convincing 2-1 victory over Serbia.
Two half brothers faced each other for the first time at a World Cup when Kevin-Prince Boateng played for Ghana and Jerome Boateng for Germany.
England finally found some of their form to beat a feisty Slovenia, who saw their chance of qualification from Group C agonizingly stolen at the last moment by a U.S. goal by Landon Donovan in injury time against Algeria.
The last gasp U.S. victory sparked scenes of joy in Pretoria among American fans and gave them first place in the group over England.
"I'm just shocked and so proud of our guys... unbelievable," midfielder Donovan said. He broke down in tears in the post-match press conference and former President Bill Clinton went to the changing room to congratulate the players, telling them they had shown the American spirit.
The result put Algeria out -- another disappointment in Africa's poor showing at the wow gold continent's first World Cup.
Donovan's late goal was also a tragedy for Slovenia, the tournament's smallest nation with a population of just over two million, who would otherwise have gone through.
As fellow European power France flew home after a shameful first-round exit, England finally played with determination against a feisty Slovenia after two dismal draws from their opening matches. The players expressed relief and said their World Cup ambition had been revived.
ENGLAND SMILE AT LAST
Striker Jermain Defoe, brought in as part of a team shakeup by manager Fabio Capello, connected with a James Milner cross in the 23rd minute to notch a goal and give some relief to the hordes of English supporters in Port Elizabeth.
But although England looked better, they never seemed as slick as the Latin American teams who have dominated the tournament, led by Brazil and Argentina.
Capello, whose habitual frown finally turned to a smile, said the result should lift the pressure on his players.
"The mind now is free, without fear," he said.
The first World Cup in Africa has so far been a struggle for Europe with former champions France heading home after a demoralizing player revolt, over the expulsion of striker Nicolas Anelka, that has shocked their nation.
Hosts South Africa beat France Tuesday night to leave them buy wow gold bottom of their group with just one point.
"In 11 days of competition, Raymond Domenech's gang has succeeded in becoming the laughing stock of the entire world, a mix of arrogance, incompetence, a lack of talent and professionalism," said France Soir newspaper.
President Nicolas Sarkozy called for a total shake-up of French soccer after a special government meeting Wednesday and said no player should receive bonuses. He hinted that there should be resignations among French soccer officials.
South Africa were the first hosts to be eliminated in the first round but at least held their heads high, garnering four points, losing out only on goal difference, and ending with their best ever international victory.
VUVUZELA TRUMPETS
Bafana Bafana's elimination has quietened the vuvuzela trumpets a little but the nation remains proud of the achievements of its underdog team and even more of its success in organizing a successful tournament, despite years of gloomy predictions from critics that it would be a disaster.
Argentina have led Latin American dominance of the World Cup so far, Diego Maradona's team brimming with confidence after a perfect first round record of three wins.
The artistry of Argentina, Brazil and even smaller Latin American teams too has been in sharp contrast to the pedestrian European performances.
Chile's players, who have won two games out of two, say a ripped and muddy flag rescued from the debris of February's massive earthquake has helped inspire them.
They have hung it on a flagpole by their training pitch.
"We're trying to bring a little happiness to all those people who cheap wow gold suffered," said center back Waldo Ponce

South Korea reach last 16 at World Cup with 2-2 draw with Nigeria

Nigerian forward Yakubu Aiyegbeni wasted a precious chance in the 66th minute when the ball fell into his path. The striker finished his move with a surprising blunder and slotted wide just in front of the net.
Aiyegbeni made up his mistake three minutes later with a penalty by sending the South Korean goalkeeper into the wrong way.
Mexico and Uruguay have secured their berths in top 16 earlier cheap wow gold in Group A matches.

Villa's goals lead Spain over Honduras 2-0
Villa beat three defenders in the 17th minute before goalkeeper Noel Valladares got a touch to the Spain striker's rising shot but not enough to keep it out.
Villa scored his 40th international goal in the 51st when his shot from the edge of the area deflected off a defender to go over Valladares. But Villa missed a penalty kick in the 62nd at Ellis Park, sending it wide right.
Spain has three points and can still win Group H with a victory over Chile, which earlier beat Switzerland 1-0 to lead with six points. Switzerland has three points and Honduras has zero.
"We think this first group is very difficult and we have a tough game against Chile," Villa said. "Being world champions is a long way down the road, there's a long time to go, and many matches as well."
Spain's win eased the disappointment of an opening 1-0 loss to the Swiss.
"I think the other day we also (played well) but the result wasn't so good," Villa said. "We had a lot of possession a lot of chances we just didn't score."
This time, Villa single-handedly took the pressure off Spain, the European champion and a favorite coming to South Africa, with a superb individual effort. He dribbled between Honduras players before cutting past Osman Chavez to send a right-footed shot into the far corner of the wow gold net as he slipped to the ground.
Jesus Navas picked Villa out for the second goal, with the striker's shot glancing off Chavez into the top of the net.
Villa's fifth career goal tied him with four Spain players as the country's leading scorer in World Cup play and moved him within four goals of Raul Gonzalez's record 44. But he shot No. 41 wide on a penalty kick in the 62nd after Navas was tripped inside the area.
"Our loss to Switzerland is water under the bridge," Villa said. "Today, we played in the same style, we attacked with short passes and we had some very good chances."
Honduras barely remains alive in the tournament after also losing to Chile 1-0 last week.
"We lacked conviction," Honduras buy wow gold coach Reinaldo Rueda said. "There's nothing much to explain except that we had a superior team in front of us."
Spain got back to its classy style and attacked from the start in front of 54,586 fans. It created a handful of chances inside the seventh minute, when Villa's long-range shot beat the outstretched Valladares but went off the crossbar.
Ramos headed Joan Capdevila's cross over the net while free at the far post in the 11th.
Spain's defense provided goalkeeper Iker Casillas with some nervous moments soon after. Casillas rushed to catch a high ball before blocking Amado Guevara's shot just before Villa's first goal.
Navas' speed kept Honduras off-kilter, while Fernando Torres uncharacteristically missed three clear chances in the first half.
Torres, making his first start since right knee surgery in April, headed over the crossbar before sending a shot high in the 33rd. He then wasted Villa's fine pass from inside the area at cheap wow gold the close of the half.

Spain coach unhappy at Swiss World Cup tactics
During the match, Gelson Fernandes scored the winning goal as the Swiss executed coach Ottmar Hitzfeld's game plan to perfection and frustrated Del Bosque's dominant side.
"I feel it's an excessive prize for them considering the football they displayed," Del Bosque said. "They played a defensive game and tried to take advantage of any counter-attack and dead-ball situation.
"They did play well in defence. We came for the win and this time it has escaped us."
Spain dominated in possession and had numerous strikes on target, even hitting the woodwork, but failed to score.
"We tried to find solutions on our wings, putting on another striker in Fernando Torres," added Del Bosque. "Our football is not just to have ball possession but also find depth in our play. We had opportunities especially in the first half to have resolved the game.
"It's not a good sign we send to our rivals. But we have to hit back and try to win our next two group games."
Spain wow gold must beat Chile and Honduras in the remaining gropu games to be assured of progressing, but Del Bosque will not change his attacking style in favour of a more conservative approach.
"Each game is different," he said. "We have arrived up to here playing a certain way and we will not lose our identity. In football you can always lose but I feel a sense of avenging this defeat."
Hitzfeld, meanwhile, was all smiles after his team claimed their first win over Spain.
"I am fully aware that we have made history," he said. "This will go down in the record books. The three points is a gift that we happily accept. It's a great feeling to start the tournament with three points against one of the biggest contenders for the title.
Hitzfeld showered his team with praise. "I am very satisfied with my team's performance," he said. "Our aim today was to have two compact lines behind our strikers as we buy wow gold didn't want to lose too much energy fighting for the ball. We wanted to focus on our defence and wait for the counter attack.
"We concentrated and were organised from the start. We didn't allow any chances for Spain in the first half and that gave us self-confidence.
"In the second half, Spain rolled one attack after another and we knew they would open their defence. After we took the lead, we gained even more confidence."
Hitzfeld made no apologies for his tactics. "If you want to play an attacking game against Spain you would lose by a big margin," he said.
The only negative aspect of the match for the Swiss was the injury to Philippe Senderos. The Fulham defender was substituted midway through the first half after sustaining an ankle problem.
"Senderos has a sprained ankle and he may have a ruptured a ligament or worse," said Hitzfeld. "He has to go to hospital to have some tests. It will be very difficult to replace him cheap wow gold and it will be a major blow for my team if we were to lose him."

The calcium in your bones came from the stars
Perhaps more significant for astronomers, these calcium-rich exploding stars — eight have been identified so far — may also represent a new class of supernova, according to a study published Thursday in the journal Nature.
"If it's not a new genus, it's at least a new species of supernova," said Alex Filippenko, a professor of astronomy at UC Berkeley and one of the study's 28 coauthors. "This is not just a variation on a theme."
Astronomers believe that supernovae — the violent explosions that accompany the deaths of stars — have two origins. Young, massive stars can explode, leaving behind dense neutron stars or black holes (known as "core collapse" supernovae); or smaller, older white dwarf stars can become unstable, setting off a thermonuclear explosion that obliterates them.
But the supernova studied by Filippenko and colleagues, SN 2005E, didn't seem to fit either category.
It generated too little material to line up with the features of the core-collapse type of supernova and appeared, in any case, in an older galaxy where core-collapse supernovae are not usually found.
But it didn't look exactly like a white-dwarf supernova, either. Its mass wow gold and chemistry were off. Though it seemed to have originated from a white dwarf, "the white dwarf blew up in a weird way," Filippenko said — possibly exploding only partially. "That's a different beast," he said.
Not all scientists agree with Filippenko's interpretation. A second paper in the same issue of Nature examined another of the eight calcium-rich supernovae, SN 2005cz, and concluded that it is not something new. Instead, the multinational team proposed that it is a core-collapse supernova, albeit one with different features.
Koji Kawabata of the Hiroshima Astrophysical Science Center in Japan, a coauthor of that second paper, said in an e-mail that he was not "so strongly" against the other team's model but scientists must make more observations before they can know.
"The situation is still kind of muddy," Filippenko acknowledged. "It's a difference of opinion."
Understanding how these supernovae were formed could help researchers better describe the chemical evolution of the universe, said David Branch, a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Oklahoma who wrote an editorial that accompanied the studies.
And, he added, the finding is almost certain to inspire astronomers to ramp up their efforts to detect and understand this variety.
Scientists have known for decades that supernovae created the stuff our universe is made of, including the carbon in our cells, the iron in our blood buy wow gold and — yes — the calcium in our bones. This is part of the reason researchers study supernovae.
"The explosions are important because they produce the heavy elements that are critical for life as we know it," Filippenko said. "We're made of star stuff."
But just because astronomers know that these elements come from supernovae doesn't mean they can explain why certain elements are present in the universe in high amounts. Calcium is a case in point.
"The total amount [of calcium] we see [in the universe] is quite high," Filippenko said, "more than can be explained with conventional supernovae. This new class could explain the large amount of calcium."
Nearly half of the material expelled from SN 2005E was calcium — five to 10 times as much, in terms of mass, than calcium produced by typical supernovae of any variety, according to the paper co-written by Filippenko. The researchers said that it would take only one or two of these calcium-rich supernovae every 100 years to generate all the calcium present in cheap wow gold life on earth.

Lost in translation or a threat of terror?
Du, then 21 and an undergraduate at Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts, was shocked. So was her boyfriend.
"I did not think the presence of a male visitor could be cause for hatred," she said.
The Japanese student complained to the campus supervisor, but school authorities sided with Du and said they were also puzzled why the situation warranted hatred.
"Later I realized that she didn't literally mean what she said and that she was not aware of the full meaning of the word 'hate' in English," said Du.
"It was more a problem with translation," she added.
Cultural differences can cause confusion about what words or even actions mean, an issue that has come to the forefront recently following the arrest of a Chinese doctoral degree student in New Jersey.
Zhai Tiantian, who studied at the Stevens Institute of Technology, has mesos been accused of trying to set fire to a campus building and of making threats to a professor who gave him a low mark.
No physical altercation took place but Zhai reportedly said something along the lines of "at worst, I will risk anything on the line." The professor called the campus police.
According to the indictment sheet wow gold, Zhai is facing the serious charge of making a terroristic threat.
For a few days, Chinese media mistranslated, or misunderstood, the charges and reported that Zhai was being charged with terrorism.
The charge of making a terrorist threat can include a range of verbal threats, according to an Associated Press report.
Officials at the Stevens Institute issued a clarification, saying they were concerned the story was being misreported and that a long-running disciplinary situation has been blown out of proportion into an international incident.
The Stevens officials also said that several foreign news reports indicating Zhai buy wow gold was arrested for questioning authorities were incorrect.
Some language experts have speculated that the disagreement between Zhai and the professor can also be chalked up to cultural and linguistic differences.
"What Chinese people regard as acceptable speech may be regarded by Americans as threats," said Luo Gang, the Chinese Consulate's Overseas Chinese Affairs consul. "This is an unfortunate incident. Even though Zhai intended no harm, he has done himself a great deal of harm."
"While I don't know enough about the incident to say what happened, it's certainly true that, in general, people speaking a second language don't always have a complete understanding of the weight of what they're saying," said 30-year-old American Eveline Chao, author of the Chinese slang book Niu Bi and a Princeton graduate in English.
"So it's certainly possible that someone might curse in a second language and not realize how strong the curse is," said Chao.
Most languages also have a hierarchy of words to express anger. Some words are mildly offensive, while others are nearly unspeakable. But for foreign learners, this hierarchy may not be obvious.
"Some words come across a lot harsher in English than when said in Chinese," said Kevin Jones, 23, an American student at the International School of Business and Economics in Beijing.
"There are still words in the US that people generally don't say that might be more acceptable to say in Chinese," said Jones.
But Zhai's case touches on the fine line between the freedom of speech and making threats of terrorism that are real, or at least can be reasonably cheap wow gold perceived as real, and has stirred much debate.
"In terms of freedom of speech, I imagine that only if the threat had seemed real would anybody have taken action," said Jones.
"There have been several cases of violence in American universities over the years, so the reaction is not unheard of," he said. "I am sure university staff were being cautious. They had to do what they had to do."
In China, a dispute between a student and a professor over a low mark is rare, but in the US things are different, said Chao.
"There is more of a sense of being on an equal level with your professors (in the US). There are even American professors who allow students to address them by their first names," said Chao. "In China the dynamic between Chinese students and their professors is much more hierarchical."
But she said it's difficult to conceive of any situation where a student would swear at, or threaten, a professor in either the US or China.
She added that she couldn't think of any specific examples of Chinese words that translate into English (or vice versa) with enough difference in meaning to lead to an incident as serious as the Zhai case.
Du, now 23, said she supports Zhai's actions in fighting to save his academic career, but added he needs to learn more about communication in a foreign language.
"Chinese students in a foreign country must prepare more in terms of languages world of warcraft gold and conversation skills to avoid misunderstandings," she said.

Review of Wrath of the Lich King
What more needs to be said about buy wow gold that folks don't know already? I'll save the readers the tedious ramblings here. The key features of WotLK are the introduction of World of Warcraft's first hero class The Death Knight, ten more levels raising the maximum level to eighty, new PVP zones, and a brand new continent Northrend.
When the Burning Crusade was released, it was mesos new, but was it anything that really caught the players' attention? In my opinion it was not. Many of the creatures looked liked different color versions of the original game. I don't care what you call them or what you color you shade them a murloc was a murloc. That is far from the case with WotLK, Blizzard really seems to have outdone themselves on the designs of the graphics, environment and creatures with this expansion. There are a tremendous amount of unique looks through the wow gold Northrend continent.
This is the second time in my history of purchasing collector's editions, that the accompanying soundtrack has escaped the confines of its cellophane prison. Most of the music was the standard fair that we've come to expect from most world of warcraft gold MMOs, there's your standard ominous dungeon percussion, and general synthesized tunes. Yet, throughout some zones, there were hints of Celtic music, and I could swear there was a piano in there somewhere.
No real improvement for the basic game User Interface as whole. It's still the standard we've come to expect from cheap world of warcraft gold. The one notable exception is the variety of user controlled "vehicles" throughout the expansion. During questing, instances and even PVP players will have an opportunity to control a variety of NPC "vehicles". Take control dragons, mammoths, tanks, and weapons each with their own set of abilities. These user controlled items add a tremendous amount of fun to the game. Whether it's riding around on a dragon blasting enemies with a variety of breath weapons or doing your best Ash impression in steam controlled tank to mow down the legions of the Scourge, this additional cheap wow gold feature is bound to be a crowd favorite.

World of Warcraft Bot for Players
As a result, Blizzard has expressed it objection of using cheats ever since the game was introduced. They have clearly outlined in their Terms of Service the reasons for this ban and the rather harsh penalties for anyone who breaks the rules. However, despite the careful use of blocks on many of the early cheats and hacks, wow gold Bots is still in full use.
A bot itself is basically just a piece of software that automatically interacts with buy wow gold the game in place of a human player. It speeds things up for a player by making it so you don’t actually have to play the game, merely turn a bot on and let your character level up. Eventually they’ll be strong enough and have enough gold that you don’t need to worry about the boring lower levels of the game anymore.
New players to the game can quickly and easily reach level 70 then without putting in the dozens of hours everyone else has so diligently spent on their cheap world of warcraft gold characters. For their part, Blizzard has spent recent months working extra hard to ensure that the use of bots does not become a bigger issue. They have banned thousands of gamers for using them. However, this does not stop the wide spread use of bots, it only makes the bots more advanced and slightly harder to detect.
It also brings in other third party activities, such as leveling services and gold buying, something Blizzard equally dislikes, but has a harder time tracking down and stopping. They’ve now made it so you cannot share your account with anyone, trade your account, sell your account, or anything else that involves moving items from the wow power leveling you’ve paid them to access, to someone else. It all breaks the ToS and will get you banned from the game.
Unfortunately, it's also very dangerous and can lead to a very quick and surreptitious deletion of your account. Somewhere in there though is a huge section outlining how easy it is for cheaters and bot users to get the boot from their service, something you should be aware of, especially when you’re sitting their wondering if there is any way to get through the world of warcraft gold game just a little bit
