Train looks to "Shake Up Christmas" for Coca-Cola
The song, "Shake Up Christmas," is a key part of Coca-Cola Co.'s new Christmas advertising campaign that in past years has featured people or animals, such as the friendly polar bears of 1993, which became iconic for generations of TV viewers.
For years, bands have struggled against declining CD sales by branching out into selling more merchandise and beefing up live and televised performances. But for San Francisco-based Train, singer Pat Monahan told Reuters the new song is less about commerce and more about wanting to conjure holiday joy during tough times.
Monahan said the Grammy-winning band has been touring the world for some 17 months, and they have talked with many people who are grappling with the economic downturn even as their hit love song, "Hey Soul Sister," set crowds to singing happily.
"It's really an honor to know that, somehow, our music is affecting people in a positive way," Monahan said.
He added that writing a song only for commerce -- meaning "Shake Up Christmas" solely for a Coca-Cola ad -- seemed cynical. Approaching a song that way, he said, "you are not going to write runescape accounts inspiring music."
"I think of what I did with 'Shake Up Christmas' as a 'how can I help'" spread some happiness.
The lyrics talk about spreading joy and love and include the chorus: "Shake it up, shake up the happiness/ Wake it up, wake up the happiness/ Come on y'all, it's Christmas time."
The band, whose other hits include "Drops of Jupiter," planned to perform the song for the first time in a show on Monday night in London, one day ahead of Coca-Cola's plans to unveil the advertising campaign and the song to the world.
SANTA CLAUS AND COCA-COLA
Dating back to the 1920s, Coca-Cola has geared ad campaigns around the holidays. Its 1931 posters featuring a jolly Santa Claus and created by artist Haddon Sundblom became symbolic of what most people consider to be a joyous time of year.
In more recent decades, a family of Coca-Cola polar bears has conjured thoughts of togetherness and sharing, and ads featuring a caravan of bright, colorful trucks delivering soft drinks has been seen in more than 100 different countries.
Shay Drohan, senior vice president runescape money of the company's Sparkling Brands division, said "Shake Up Christmas" will be featured throughout the 2010 holiday campaign.
"We think of (the ads) as tradition," Drohan said. "but we want to balance that with what is new about this Christmas."
The company hopes to build on the success it enjoyed with a similar promotion created around World Cup soccer matches using the song "Wavin' Flag - Coca-Cola Celebration Mix" by Somali rapper K'NAAN. The song was not just a key part of ads, it became a hit that topped record charts in 17 countries.
Whether Train can duplicate that kind of success with "Shake Up Christmas" awaits the days and weeks ahead, but there is one thing of which Monahan is certain right now, the song is not about an ad. "It's really about the wow gold spirit" of Christmas, he said.

Ten Positive Life Changes for Fall
Fall, as we’ve all known since runescape gold we were little, is the season of change and transitions. Students get new classmates in school. Leaves change color. Summer flip-flops are traded in for chocolate-brown boots. The weather gets cooler and crisper, which may mean less iced coffee and more hot soy lattes. Good-bye summer barbeques. Hello apple picking. Who’s ready for fall?
Seasons are not meant to be static, and neither are people. We are at our best when we are open to new ideas, flexible to life’s curves, and willing to get out of our own comfort zones. Here are ten ideas to shake up our usual routines all for the better.
1. Change your attitude about something you currently don’t like. So you can’t stand your know-it-all coworker. He’s not going to quit anytime soon, and neither are you. Rather than constantly bitching to your spouse about how your workmate drives you up the wall, try approaching his next one-sided rambles with some sympathy and understanding. Or that terrible traffic you have to endure every morning—maybe some good audiobooks will actually make you thankful that runescape accounts you’re stuck in the car for over forty minutes.
2. Change up the people you are surrounded by. It’s great to have your posse of close-knit friends. But it’s important to always have opportunities to meet new people, encounter new personalities (however difficult), and get intimidated as hell by people who are half your age and really kicking ass at life. So check out new community events, strike up conversations with strangers, ask a lot of questions, and continue to build new relationships among your social contacts.
3. Change your eating habits; try new recipes, new world cuisines, new ingredients, and new local supermarkets. Have your eating habits fallen into a predictable pattern of casseroles, hamburgers, and iceberg lettuce salads? My favorite runescape money way to change up my eating habits is to visit a health-food or produce store that I’ve never visited before; this has introduced me to new ingredients such as nutritional yeast, kale, rice paper, seitan, and more.
4. Change your usual interests and hobbies. Of course, this is why it’s so important to change up the people you’re surrounded by; meeting interesting people is one of the best ways to expose yourself to fields of interest you may have otherwise never encountered or thought of learning about. Another easy way to change up your usual interests and hobbies is to browse magazines at your local bookstore.
5. Change your style. No, you don’t have to buy a whole new wardrobe to do this. It can be a matter of combining tops and bottoms in unusual ways, doing jewelry swaps with your girlfriends, or simply being a little more daring with your colors of eye shadow, lipstick, and nail polish.
6. Change your home environment. That painting you’ve been meaning to hang up for the last few months? Do it. And while you’re at it, unclutter your unwanted stuff and donate it to charity. Add a potted basil plant and some freshly cut gerberas, while you’re at it. Home environments need new energy, too.
7. Change what is stagnant about your work. Hate your job? In the wrong field? Quit. Love your job but getting bored? Challenge yourself, ask for bigger projects, change your attitude, do something. Just don’t do the wow gold same thing you’ve been doing for the last few months or years that’s been making you bored in the first place.
8. Change the usual routines you do with your loved one. Is it always pizza and movie night with your darling? How about taking a road trip along the coast? Or going on a grueling nature hike at five in the morning to catch the sunrise? Weekend trapeze classes? Don’t get me wrong—I’m all for letting it all hang loose in the name of love, but don’t forget to do the adventurous stuff that is best experienced with your favorite partner in crime.
9. Change your hang-outs. Oh, yes, we love it when we’ve become so familiar with that coffee and doughnut shop down the street that the owner knows our name and it’s even permanently engraved in a special chair by the window. But it won’t kill you to drive an extra mile beyond your normal radius to check out some new cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, bookstores, and other neighborhood hangouts and discover other hidden gems in your town.
10. Change something that has become easy for you. You used to be a couch potato, and now those five-mile runs are as easy as pie for you; add another mile. Getting bored with your yoga class? Step it up with a more advanced level. And that goal of writing in your journal every day that has become so second nature? Maybe it’s time to start submitting some of those writings buy wow gold to publications and become a published writer.

Coffee giant is our home from home
Is it the bland coffee? Is it the Frappuccino? Or maybe the comfy armchairs and clean bathrooms, accessible for free to any and all?
It's all of this. Like many American females, I am an extremely picky eater who is both weight-conscious and mildly allergic to everything (that includes dust, dander, some nuts, lactose and gluten, depending on the day).
Since moving to China in 2007, I've also become semi-vegetarian.
Call me picky - so what? It's my body and I should have the option to choose what goes into it, especially when I'm paying todine out.
Places like Starbucks are a picky Western eater's respite in China, especially in smaller cities, and virtually the only places that offer skim and soy milk, as well as sugar-free syrups, Splenda and honey for diabetics. This serves the lactose intolerant as well as those who just happen toprefer soy.Starbucks never runs out runescape accounts of coffee, creamer, milk, sugar or syrup (unlike its Chinese counterparts, which often run out of everything by 4 pm), is never closed on Monday afternoon because the manager had to wash his cat, and never refuses the requests ofpaying customers - no matter how ludicrous.
Contrary to popular belief, it is reasons like these that are behind Starbucks' massive popularity - not stellar coffee. At best, Starbucks coffee is mediocre and overpriced, but we ugly Americans are willing to pay 25 yuan for a cup, with a smile.
Before eco-friendliness, the Starbucks platform was built on encouraging consumers to "personalize" their coffee orders (that is make your drink as complicated as humanly possible), even down to the temperature.
What we pay for is the peace of mind and the convenience and ease with which it's provided to us.
The barista never bats an eyelid or gives a harsh look, roll of the eyes, or even the most indistinguishable grunt.
Those expatriates who may have scoffed at the Starbucks at home as a symbol of capitalistic yuppiedom overwhelmingly drop their pretenses andappreciate it for what it is in China - a haven for the picky and the intolerant.
Many of us have been bruised by cafes in China. Even in an expensive cafe, we are snickered at or stared at in confusion when we ask for skim instead of whole runescape money or brown instead of white sugar.
I suppose I've have been spoiled, raised on a "customer is always right" mantra, which has left me disappointed during the past few years.
It is imperative that standards for things like service be raised in China, especially as the country guides itself out of a current economy based on manufacturing and other low-skilled traditional industries into one driven by service-based and high-tech sectors.
Recently, I was told by a Chinese saleslady who used her chest to block the entryway to the fitting room that perhaps the size 4 blouse I was holding wouldn't fit over my "meaty" arms and that I should try the next size up. Or two.
When I told her wow gold politely that I knew my size, we proceeded to commence a game of tug-of-war over the garment that she, in the end, refused to hand back to me, as if she were afraid that I would damage it.
Everyone knows that you don't tell customers the truth. Retail is escapism. As is the coffee shop.
The Chinese, as sweet as they are, would do well to learn not to tell Westerners how fat they are, and at the same time, implement strict smoking bans in cafes. China should not only open its doors to welcome foreign talent from all over the world to come to this country to chase assorted dreams, but make these people feel at home.
Forget national reserves, GDP growth and technological innovation. If the Chinese really want to get ahead, what they need to do is create a Chinese version of Starbucks. What better way to say welcome than with a cup of coffee, made to order?
What better way to show the world how progressive China is than to beat the Americans buy wow gold at their own game?

Marvin Gaye, Tupac inspire Maroon 5's latest album
Frontman Adam Levine knows the resulting CD, "Hands All Over," will never be mistaken for a Tupac record or music by Gaye. But both men still provided plenty of musical inspiration for the album.
"Those were two people that did whatever they wanted to do, and artistically, just kind of followed whatever path they wanted to follow," he said.
His five-member band expresses a similar freedom on "Hands All Over," their third album, released last month. The Los Angeles-based rockers recorded the CD — which mixes pop, rock, R&B and country sounds — with veteran producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange. Levine said it was the "best recording process we've had in our lives."
The Associated Press: Talk about the songwriting behind the album.
Levine: If I was upset about something I would turn it into a love song. It would always be a love runescape accounts song that was the model for how I was feeling. So it was just feelings, things I was going through. (There were) lot of things in Switzerland I was going through. I wrote a lot of lyrics. It was just 24 hours of creativity 'cause it was a really serene place. Just honesty. (That's) the main focus on all of the records, but especially on this one was really raw, kind of truthful, human emotion.
AP: Is there ever a subject you don't want to write about in a song?
Levine: It's never really been a business thing for me. It's hard. ... I heard some famous story about somebody who'd go in every day and just write something to write something, and I'd love to get to that point in my career, in my life — just that kind of prolific songwriting. But I just don't. It has to be something that I'm going through. If it's not then it's hard for me to write down. So yeah, there's times when I really don't want to write a song.
AP: Who would you like to write a song for?
Levine: I don't know if I want to write a song for anybody. I think it has to start off for me, and runescape money then if it makes sense for another singer or artist or whatever, that would be cool. I don't really ever have a desire to write a song for somebody other than myself, you know. If it doesn't start off that way at least, it doesn't ring true to me.
AP: Why is the record called "Hands All Over"?
Levine: Album titles are funny. ... "Hands All Over" is kind of evocative. ... It's mysterious and kind of sexual and I'm not sure what it means, but it sounds really good so we wanted to use that as our album's name (laughs).
AP: In the video for first single, "Misery," you're constantly attacked by your ex. Had you ever done anything so wrong in a relationship to deserve a similar beating?
Levine: I don't know if I've ever done anything that deserves a beating like that. Being set on fire and thrown off buildings and hit by cars is pretty brutal. I mean, everyone's done wrong. I've done wrong, you know. It's part of life. It's kind of how you wow gold deal with those mistakes that's best.

The Moneyless Man: Broke by Choice and Loving It
If Boyle’s off-the-grid lifestyle isn’t totally unique among today’s Burning Man fanatics and Freecyclers, his background and level of commitment are one in a million. The author of a popular book and founder of the Freeconomy, an online social network with nearly twenty-five thousand members, Boyle hasn’t spent a dime for more than a year and a half.
He doesn’t hate money, he says, but he definitely doesn’t like it. “I’m completely neutral,” Boyle says when asked if the sight of money makes his insides churn.
If someone left £10,000 ($15,440) at his feet? “I’d probably recognize it for what it is, which is a big lump of paper.”
The seed for his aversion to cash was planted during the six years he spent studying economics, followed by a brief career managing organic food companies—a half measure toward a better world, Boyle says. “Freeconomics” sprouted into a passion one day at the local pub in 2007. It was then, chatting with a friend, that Boyle runescape accounts made a commitment to abandon currency.
“Money keeps us separated from the consequences of what we consume,” he says. Because of cash, “we don’t see factory farms, we don’t see the sweatshops where clothes are made, we don’t see the pesticides that we spray all over our food,” Boyle says over the phone, as a faint beeping indicates the device is about to die. “All money does is disconnect us.”
Going totally moneyless and spreading the word came in fits and starts for Boyle. His cause first gained widespread attention in early 2008 during a failed attempt to trek without money from Britain to India. Intended as a nine-thousand-mile journey that would take two-and-a-half years, the trek ended after less than a month when misunderstanding and natural human distrust scuttled Boyle’s dream in northern France.
“Not only did no one not [sic] speak the language,” Boyle wrote in a Feb. 24, 2008, blog entry about the residents of Calais, “they also seen [sic] us as just a bunch of freeloading backpackers, which is the opposite of what the pilgrimage is really about.”
Freezing, starving, and emotionally downtrodden, Boyle decided to return home. Boyle announced his decision online to the “Freeconomists” following his journey. “I have touched money to get back [to the UK] and I want you all to know that,” he wrote. “But that has runescape money happened and I can’t change that now. All I can do is make a resolution to not be so weak in the future.”
The resolution became real in November 2008, as Boyle embarked upon a “Buy Nothing Year” just two days after a Walmart employee was killed in a stampede of customers on the first day of the Christmas shopping season. That “Buy Nothing Year” is now just a few months away from becoming a “Buy Nothing Two Years.” Boyle suggests it will go on even longer.
“I’ve never been happier. Never been fitter. Never been healthier,” he says. A vegan for six years, Boyle scavenges for and grows his own food, and volunteers several days a week at the organic farm where his trailer is parked. He brushes his teeth using a mixture of washed-ashore cuttlefish bone and fennel seeds, and he rarely, if ever enters a major cosmopolitan area.
In previous interviews, he’s suggested a pint at the pub is what he misses most about his old life. “I don’t miss beer that much,” he says, clearing the record. “Women are always the biggest temptation.” Not that mates are off-limits, provided, of course, that they don’t ask for a dime.
“This is something I want to do for the rest of my life,” Boyle says, suggesting money-free wow gold family life may be in his future. “I’d be very happy to have a partner, given the right time and right place.”
That time and place may soon materialize. Boyle is currently laying the groundwork for a moneyless village, built upon the proceeds earned through sales of his book and kept locked away in a charitable trust. His blog and the Freeconomy do not host ads or generate revenue otherwise.
There’s plenty of interest in what Boyle preaches. “I’ve been inundated by people who want to live without money and be a part of this project,” Boyle says. “I can’t even stop the demand for it.
“When you lose your addictions to all the crap, all the bullshit that we’re sold, then you’re on the road to true liberation, true freedom.”Boyle often cites a quote by Epicurus to convey the timelessness and credibility of his message: “If you want to make a man rich, do not add to his wealth but subtract from his desires.”
“I’ve made small sacrifices,” Boyle says buy wow gold of his lifestyle. “But I’ve gained so much more.”

"Kings of Pastry" an appetizing documentary
Intermittent subtitles and unglossy production values present a challenge in marketing to that TV audience, but the dazzling skill of the movie's subjects should generate good buzz among foodies who see it. First Run Features is handling the 84-minute film's domestic theatrical release.
At issue is the Meilleurs Ouvriers de France (M.O.F.) competition, which is held every four years and has Olympics-level significance for the pastry chefs who seek its approval. The 16 men who enter already are esteemed in their fields, working at top restaurants and running runescape accounts cooking schools, but are hoping to earn a tricolor collar that signifies something close to dessert-course infallibility.
When we meet Jacquy Pfeiffer, a round-faced and likable Frenchman who co-founded a pastry school in Chicago, he already has been planning his M.O.F. campaign for years. He knows that many brilliant patissiers go through multiple cycles before earning the honor -- even the head of this year's jury tried three times before passing -- consuming possibly a dozen years of one's career.
The psychological strain is conveyed in a single telling detail: Every night, Pfeiffer's girlfriend must help him sleep by convincing him that the competition has been canceled. But the physical challenge is far from trivial: Speaking of a sugar-crystal globe that will be part of his final project, he says, "I just need one, but I'm going to make nine in case I break eight." By the time he leaves Chicago for France to conduct a "dry run" and perfect his demo, enough sugar has been wasted to rot the teeth of a thousand children.
Although the movie introduces us to a couple of Pfeiffer's fellow finalists on the other side of runescape money the Atlantic, it doesn't spend enough time with them to get viewers invested in their success. The M.O.F isn't a zero-sum game -- all the finalists could, theoretically, earn the honor at once -- but some viewers, especially those trained by "Top Chef" and its ilk, will miss the feeling of rooting for one cook against the others. Still, they will witness one climactic reversal -- and the attempt to overcome it -- that is at least as emotionally moving as anything glimpsed this year on Bravo.
"Pastry" doesn't get as deep into the science of baking as some might hope -- differences in baking materials are touched on only briefly, though humidity's effect on sugar plays a dramatic role. But it does offer truly fascinating footage of esoteric sugar skills including the crafting of layered ribbons, swooping sculptural forms and delicate, transparent flowers. It's sculpture worth eating -- if only its makers can carry it from the stress-filled kitchen to the exhibition floor in wow gold one piece.

Young kids easily trust what they're told
Very young children are runescape gold extraordinarily trusting of what adults tell them, even if there is repeated evidence to the contrary, finds a new study.
In what may be little surprise to many parents, University of Virginia researchers found that 3-year-olds placed more trust in information they are told than information conveyed to them without words.
In this study, an adult showed children a red and a yellow cup and then hid a sticker under the red cup. Some children were told (incorrectly) that the sticker was under the yellow cup, while runescape accounts other children saw the adult place an arrow on the yellow cup without saying anything. The children were told they could look under one cup and keep the sticker if they found it. The experiment was repeated eight times with pairs of different colored cups.
The children who saw the adult place the arrow on the incorrect cup quickly learned not to trust this sign. But those who heard the adult say runescape money the sticker was under a certain cup continued to believe that's where they would find the sticker. Of those 16 children, nine never once found the sticker in eight tries. (At the end of the game, all the children were given stickers, whether they found them or not.)
The study appears in the journal Psychological Science.
"Children have developed a specific bias to believe what they're told. It's sort of a shortcut to keep them from having to evaluate what people say. It's useful because most of the time parents and caregivers tell children things that they believe to be true," study wow gold author Vikram K. Jaswal said in a journal news release.

UK 'sunflower seed' exhibit closed as health risk
Chinese artist Ai Weiwei filled a giant hall at the London gallery with a 1,000 sq. meter (10,000 sq. foot) carpet of the imitation seeds, hand-crafted by thousands of artisans in China over a two-year period. Visitors were invited to walk across the surface when the show opened earlier this week.
But the gallery said Friday that the "enthusiastic interaction of visitors" was releasing a "greater than expected level" of ceramic dust. It wasn't clear whether the seeds were breaking or simply being worn down.
"Tate has been advised that this dust could be damaging to health following repeated inhalation over a long period of time," the gallery said in a statement. "In consequence, Tate, in consultation with the runescape accounts artist, has decided not to allow visitors to walk across the sculpture."
It said visitors could view the exhibition from a walkway above the hall.
The gallery said the seeds, a common Chinese street snack, represent friendship and compassion, raise questions of individualism and evoke the enforced conformity of the Cultural Revolution, when propaganda posters depicted Chairman Mao as the sun and runescape money Chinese people as sunflowers turning toward him.
The commissions in the huge Turbine Hall have become one of the most popular attractions at Tate Modern, a former power station that opened as a gallery in 2000 and draws 4 million visitors a year.
It is not the first time an exhibition there has caused mishaps. In 2007 three visitors tumbled into Doris Salcedo's "Shibboleth," a jagged crack running the length of the room. Several people suffered bumps and bruises on Carsten Holler's twisting slide in 2006.
Last year a man was injured in Polish artist Miroslaw Balka's "How It Is," which invited wow gold visitors into a pitch-black room.

'Be prepared to shed a tear or three, as Cheryl sadly croons, "You can't hold onto water".'

Hilary Duff stays young with first novel
"I love reading young adult books even though I'm a little older than the set demographic for YA," she said Tuesday. "I love adventure. I relate to girl characters, love, finding yourself and breaking out of the mold that people put you in."
It makes sense then that the actress and singer would decide to write her first novel "Elixir" for the younger set.
Duff may have a feel for her reading audience, too, from knowing her viewing audience. Duff played Lizzie MacGuire for two seasons on the Disney Channel from 2001-2004. Fans who watched her on TV may also want to check out her book.
"Elixir" is about a young photojournalist named Clea Raymond whose photos have extra images in them that weren't there originally. Then her father disappears. Clea sets off to unravel the mystery of both.
"This idea just kept coming to me and building in my head. I thought 'What am I gonna do runescape accounts with this? Am I gonna write a script or pitch the idea? Have someone else write it?' And then I thought 'I'm open for a new challenge. I'm going to try to write a book.'"
Duff has had a busy year. Besides writing, she also wed pro hockey player Mike Comrie in August.
She says publishing deadlines can be more stressful than planning a wedding.
"It's very similar ... They (publishers at Simon & Schuster Children's) were very good to me during the writing process and very lenient with dates and stuff until the very end. Then it got hectic. I was planning the wedding, and there's deadlines with that, too, like runescape money getting the location and getting your dress at a certain time ... I tend to do everything at the last minute ... I couldn't even choose which one is harder. I guess I'd say the book."
Duff plans "Elixir" to be the first in a series of novels. She will begin its sequel in a few weeks.
"That's one thing I learned during the writing process. So much changes. You have an idea in your head and then more ideas come with that idea and then your premise can wow gold kind of change."

Research aims to cut disparities in stroke car
Wooten was lucky: Too few stroke sufferers get that clot-busting treatment, especially black and Hispanic patients who are at highest risk of having a stroke and also may be particularly hesitant to seek fast care.
New research is targeting those underserved populations to better spread the word that "time is brain" — the faster you move the more brain you save.
"We basically scare people so much about stroke, it motivates them to denial," says Dr. Lewis Morganstern of the University of Michigan, an expert on stroke disparities. "What we haven't done a good job of is telling people there is an effective treatment, that people are in control of their own destiny."
That was the message stroke educator Shauna St. Clair of Georgetown University took to a senior center in a predominantly black neighborhood in the nation's capital last week, part of a project funded by the National Institutes of Health.
Most strokes are like a clogged pipe, St. Clair explained: Break up the clog and blood can resume feeding starving brain cells on the other side, which is what happened when Wooten, 61, was treated at a nearby hospital.
"Damaged brain cells we can fix. That's why we want you to get treatment as soon as possible," St. Clair told the rapt group. "If they stay damaged, they die."
About 795,000 Americans have a stroke every year. It is the nation's leading cause of runescape accounts disability and the No. 3 killer. Symptoms include: sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm or leg, especially on one side; sudden trouble speaking or understanding speech, seeing or walking; a sudden super-severe headache.
While some strokes are caused by bleeding in the brain, the vast majority are ischemic strokes, the clot kind that the drug TPA can help treat — but only if it's given within a few hours of the first symptom.
Yet 14 years after TPA hit the market, overall only about 5 percent of U.S. patients get it. That's partly due to problems within the health care system — but also partly because only about a third of stroke sufferers get to the hospital in time for testing to tell if they're a good candidate.
Everyone needs to know to act fast if they experience or witness stroke symptoms. The new research comes because African-Americans have strokes at twice the rate of whites and are more likely to die. Hispanics are at increased risk of stroke as well. Worse, both runescape money populations tend to have strokes at much younger ages than whites.
Georgetown researchers tracked ischemic strokes for a year in Washington, and found black patients received TPA less often than whites in part because of slower hospital arrival — despite community surveys that found widespread knowledge about stroke symptoms.
"No, you can't wait to see if your symptoms go away," says Dr. Chelsea Kidwell, a Georgetown neurologist who heads the project. "No, you should not call your relative or friend. ... You've got to call 911."
The findings echo a major study that Morganstern leads in Corpus Christi, Texas, where Mexican-Americans were 40 percent less likely than whites to call 911 for a stroke.
The disconnect isn't surprising, says Dr. Walter Koroshetz, deputy director of the NIH's National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. The most common mistake among all populations when feeling a stroke symptom is to go rest.
Adding to the confusion are so-called ministrokes, a TIA or "transient ischemic attack" where an artery is blocked for a few minutes, leaving no permanent damage. But it's a warning sign that a major stroke may be imminent, something prompt care to treat risk factors like high blood pressure might avert. Other studies have found half of people who have a TIA never tell a health provider.
It takes community-specific research to learn what act-fast messages work, Morganstern says. His Corpus Christi project recently taught middle-school students to call 911 if they witness someone having stroke wow gold symptoms, with homework assignments to teach their parents, too — thus reaching a hard-to-target population. Next, the project is designing ways that local Catholic churches can help with stroke education.
In Washington, Kidwell is working with ambulances to bypass the closest hospital for one of three certified "stroke centers" — hospitals with 24-hour special capabilities to give TPA.
The community education won't just target seniors but younger people who may witness a stroke, like the woman who told St. Clair she'd noticed her mother leaving church looking drunk — a loss of balance caused by a stroke.
And it will stress happy endings like Wooten's. She slept off a TIA two weeks earlier, and credits her daughter's love of TV hospital shows for recognizing the major stroke.
About an hour after getting the clot-buster, "it was like it never happened," says Wooten, who says her only lingering problem is a slight shake when her right hand holds something heavy. "I'm driving my car, I'm messing with my buy wow gold grandkids. Thank God I'm doing OK."

Indigo Girls toast "Happy Days" on holiday album
"We just both had a desire to do it at the same time, which doesn't always happen with us," Emily Saliers told Billboard.com.
The 12-track set, features bluegrass- and Appalachian-flavored versions of standards such as "Oh Holy Night," "I'll Be Home For Christmas" (with Julie Wolf) and "Angels We Have Heard on High," as well as less celebrated fare including "In the Bleak Midwinter," Chely Wright's "It Really Is (A Wonderful Life)," Beth Nielsen Chapman's "There's Still My Joy" and Mike Burn's "Peace Child."
Janis Ian and Mary Gautier join the Indigos for a rendition of Woody Guthrie's "Happy Joyous Hanukkah," and Saliers and Emily Ray wrote three original songs for the album: "The Wonder Song," "Misteltoe" runescape accounts and the buoyant "Your Holiday Song."
"We spent a long time listening through Christmas songs," Saliers said. "Our manager gave us a million different Christmas songs, Hanukkah songs ... we went through everything and started out with a bunch of songs we were super, super excited about. Singing someone else's songs (is) easier than recording your own for whatever reason, although there's a lot of self-pressure in that you want to make them your own song."
The Indigos recorded "Holly Happy Days" in Nashville with producer Peter Collins and an all-star band -- Victor Krauss on bass, Alison Brown on banjo, Lloyd Maines on dobro and pedal steel, Luke Bulla on fiddle and Jim Brock on percussion. Good pal Brandi Carlile sang harmonies on several tracks.
"It was maybe the most fun I've runescape money ever had making a record," Saliers said, "loving your job and getting excited every morning to get up and go into the studio. It was a joy. And to have those players who are just world-class, incredible, inspiring players, you can't believe the stuff they come up with. It makes you want to never play guitar again."
As for the musical approach, she said that "both Amy and I love Appalachian and bluegrass music, and we just thought it would be so much fun to have it be of that ilk."
The Indigos aren't dipping into the holiday material for their current U.S. tour, which runs through November 6, but Saliers said they're putting together a small number of special holiday shows for December with the band and some of the guests who appear on the album.
Meanwhile, Ray is working on her fourth solo studio album, while Saliers is collaborating on some music for an independent film currently titled "That's What She Said" and is still writing a wow gold hoped-for solo album of her own.

Build Your Future: Invest in Yourself
Wiser words have never been spoken.
Investing in yourself is the true way to improve yourself. If you trade your time and effort now for increased skills or knowledge, relationships, and better health, your results will multiply in the future. While we all have to do what is necessary and proper to maintain equilibrium – keep working at our jobs, for instance – we should be leveraging our spare time for self-investment instead of wasting it on things that truly don’t matter.
Taking an attitude of investing your time in yourself now will result in payoffs later. The key is to discriminate between what is investing and what is not – because more things can be considered “investing” than we think. Being social – talking to just about anyone – is investing because it improves your communication skills, extroversion, and builds relationships. And, yet, many people like being social because it’s fun. Investing doesn’t have to be boring – in fact, by pursuing what you’re interested in, you can invest in yourself very effectively.
However, no amount of intellectual or emotional investment is worth it if we don’t invest in the first pillar: health.
The Importance of Health
Your health, first and foremost, determines how effective you are. How you treat your body determines your mood, your ability to focus, and how you treat others. In short, how you feel determines how you behave – and the best way to feel great is to live a healthy lifestyle.
Here are some simple ways to invest in your health:
Exercise Often: Engaging in exercise makes you burn calories, lose weight, feel good, and stay mobile. It’s the catch-all for good health, in my mind. Make sure to switch things up to keep your body adapting and to make things more interesting; don’t do the same workout 5 days a week.
Eat well: People will tell you different things, but as long as you maximize your green vegetable and fruit intake, while minimizing processed foods, you’re eating pretty well. Buy organic produce as often as you can: the difference in things other than price – like taste and nutrition – is very noticeable. Eating smaller meals and runescape accounts sticking to “natural” foods like nuts, fruits, veggies, and meats is a nice rule of thumb, though you can eat some carbs as well to give you energy that lasts throughout the day.
Sleep well: Figure out what you need to function at your best, and make it your mission to get that much sleep every night. This is simple but the hardest change to implement, in my opinion, but the rewards are great. Don’t get cocky – your body does need sleep. Give it the rest you deserve.
I could go beyond that, but that foundation of exercise-diet-sleep is more than good enough as a jumping-off point. Remember: getting the fundamentals of living healthily is essential to being effective, focused, and feeling good each and every day.
Your Knowledge and Skills
Your knowledge and skills are the places where you can actually “see” your improvement. Being more skilled – in both breadth (number) as well runescape money as depth (how “good” you are at a particular skill) will make you more indispensible in every area of your life, from the workplace to your home. Reading books, trading ideas, and learning how to do new things will make you smarter and will also help with your lateral thinking and creativity – you’ll be able to combine knowledge from various disciplines in order to solve problems.
To invest in your skills, the route is very simple: you must practice. Practicing a lot – provided you’re also pushing your limits – will make you better at anything. Period. Don’t be afraid to learn how to do new things either. By doing so, you’re adding another tool to your Swiss Army knife of skills – skills that will come in handy later in life.
To increase your knowledge, it’s also a simple route: consume lots of information. Now, this doesn’t mean that you should read the news all day. Instead, consume good sources of information. Read what people in your business are reading so you can stay up-to-date. Watch TED talks. Go on Fora.tv. Read books of all different kinds – business, history, political, whatever you’re interested in. If you’re interested in everything (like me), then you’re in luck – just read whatever appeals to you and be confident that you’ll benefit from them. For one, exposing your brain to new ideas leads your brain to generate some of its own ideas. Those ideas, in collaboration with other ideas, can advance society.
Investing in your knowledge and skills allows you to be a more versatile, competent, and wow gold interesting person. This is also extremely helpful when it comes to…
Network and Relationships
Your networks and relationships are also great things to invest in.
Actually, since “networking” seems too big-business-esque, let’s just call this “investing in your relationships”.
Building good relationships with everyone around you – your family, your coworkers, and even the barista at Starbucks – is essential for living a good life. As humans, we’re social beings. We need contact with others in order to feel our emotional best. Not to mention, building good relationships leads to a bevy of benefits – you always have friends to go out with, you always can have close relatives to support you, and you can end up having a network of people who you have business connections with who may be able to help you out if you’re ever in need of a job.
Well, how do you improve your relationships?
Simple. Care.
Care about others and spend time with people that like you who for you are, and you’ll be a winner. The more time you spend with people, the better your relationships will be – well, as long as you’re having a good time with them.
If you ever find yourself without friends to go out with, go out anyways and make an effort to meet new friends – especially if you’re in a new city. Expanding your circles of friends is always a good thing, since you’ll always be able to meet friends-of-friends in an ever-expanding buy wow gold circle of relationships. Having good people skills is very underrated but is necessary, I’d argue, for living a balanced, healthy lifestyle.
Keep in mind that this also applies to your family. Taking time out of your day to spend time with your children, for example, can be seen as “investing”, since you’re planting the seeds for a deeply fulfilling relationship.
If you’re spending time with people and you’re not getting what you want out of the relationship – maybe you need different friends that fit you. Go out and meet them at places that cater to the things you’re interested in. Go to a bookstore if you like books. Go to your favorite cafes and spots in your city and just talk with the people who you’d think you like to meet.
With each and every relationship you make (or try to make!), you’re presenting yourself with another opportunity to enrich your life and theirs as well. Great relationships are like nothing else in life, and we should treasure them all.
Don’t Worry About Not Investing
When I first got into the idea of investing my time, I obsessed over whether I was investing enough of my time into things that mattered.
Don’t. Time spent worrying is time spent not enjoying your life – which is what you should really be doing in the first place.
As long as you’re using your time well to enrich your skills, knowledge, and your relationships, while keeping your health well, you’re fine.
In fact, this gives you an excuse to have more fun and be more social, since you’re now investing in your relationships instead of thinking of it as “spending time with my friends that I could spend working.”
As long as you don’t think of investing as work, you’re on the right track. After all, this is all meant to cheap wow gold be fun, not something to labor through.

"Harry Potter" catching up to 'Star Wars' franchise
Despite the money Hollywood has thrown into producing and marketing franchises like Mission: Impossible, Transformers and Terminator, nothing so far has touched Star Wars. According to Box Office Mojo, the six Star Wars movies have earned a total of $4.5 billion in ticket sales worldwide, including $2 billion in the U.S. The films have generated an additional $20 billion in merchandise sales, which helped land George Lucas in the 97th spot on our recent Forbes 400 list with a net worth of $3.25 billion. There's also a popular Cartoon Network spinoff that has convinced a whole new generation that it is cool to be a Jedi.
To compile our list we used data from Box Office Mojo and ranked franchises based only on buy wow gold domestic box office revenue. We did not adjust for inflation.
Ranking second behind Star Wars is Harry Potter. The six Warner Bros. films have grossed $1.7 billion, an average of $285 million each. The seventh film is slated to hit theaters this November in 3-D. It needs to earn $300 million to catch up with Star Wars, and considering that 3-D tickets can cost as much as 40% more than regular tickets, it's likely to cross that threshold. With an eighth film slated for 2011 (the second half of the last book), Harry Potter has a chance to become the highest grossing franchise. Lucas could spoil that with his plans to rerelease the Star Wars films in 3-D beginning in 2012.
In third place: James Bond. The franchise has brought in $1.6 billion in the U.S. alone, which helps explains the frenzy that has surrounded rumors that, because of MGM's financial troubles, the Bond franchise could be over.
Those worries might be greatly exaggerated. Director Sam Mendes dropped out of the running to direct a movie based on the book The Hunger Games (another potential runescape gold major franchise) because he is slated to direct Bond 23, which seems to be back on.
Batman ranks fourth with $1.4 billion. Time Warner studio Warner Bros. relaunched the franchise in 2005 with Batman Begins, which grossed $205 million. The sequel, The Dark Knight, more than doubled that gross with $533 million at the U.S. box office. Director Christopher Nolan is reportedly working on his third Batman movie.
Shrek ranks fifth with $1.3 billion. The film franchise nominally came to an end this year with Shrek Forever After, which despite being in 3-D was the lowest-grossing of the four Shrek films (in the U.S.), with only $238 million at the box office. The Shrek franchise lives on with the upcoming Puss in Boots movie, which is scheduled to hit theaters next November. The film is a spinoff featuring the character voiced by Antonio Banderas, who made his first appearance in Shrek 2. The new Puss movie is a perfect example of why studios love franchises: Even if the main characters run their course, there is always the potential to find a way to runescape money keep the money rolling in.

Twenty-Two Uses for Lemon Peels
When life gives you lemons, make wow gold lemonade. But what to do with all those lemon peels? Don’t toss them; put them to work. Lemon juice is about 5 to 6 percent citric acid and has a pH level of between two and three. This low pH acidity makes lemon juice a great ally in breaking down rust and mineral stains, but gentle enough to not dull finishes. There is generally sufficient juice left in used lemon halves to tackle small tasks, and it all comes with its own applicator (the rind itself). Plus, the oil in the peel is perfect for clever culinary applications and not bad in the beauty department, either. Here’s what you can do:
Around the House
1. Clean greasy messes.
Greasy pans? Splattered stove tops? Messy counters? If your kitchen has been the victim of some sloppy sautéing, try using lemon halves before bringing out possibly toxic chemical cleaners. Sprinkle some salt (for abrasion) on a juiced lemon half and rub on the greasy areas; wipe up with a towel. (Be careful using lemon on marble countertops or on any other surface that may be sensitive to acid.)
2. Clean your tea kettle or coffee pot.
For mineral deposit build-up in your tea kettle, fill the kettle with water, add a handful of thin slices of lemon peel, and bring to a boil. Turn off heat and let sit for an hour, drain, and rinse well. For coffee pots, add ice, salt, and lemon rinds to the empty pot; swish and runescape gold swirl for a minute or two, dump, and rinse. Hello, sparkly.
3. Clean your microwave.
All it takes is one exploding bowl of food to render the interior of your microwave officially gunked—sometimes gunked with cement-like properties. Rather than using strong chemical cleaners, try this: Add lemon rinds to a microwave-safe bowl filled halfway with water. Cook on high for five minutes, allowing the water to boil and the steam to condense on the walls and tops of the oven. Carefully remove the hot bowl and wipe away the mess with a towel.
4. Deodorize the garbage disposal.
Use lemon peels to deodorize the garbage disposal (and make your kitchen smell awesome at the same time). It is a great way to finally dispose of spent lemon peels after you have used them for any of these applications.
5. Polish chrome.
Mineral deposits on chrome faucets and other tarnished chrome make haste in the presence of lemon—rub with a squeezed lemon half, rinse, and lightly buff with a soft cloth.
6. Polish copper.
A halved lemon dipped in salt or baking powder can also be used to brighten copper cookware, as well as brass, chrome, or stainless steel. Dip a juiced lemon half in salt (you can also use baking soda or cream of tartar instead of salt) and rub on the affected area. Let it stay on for five minutes. Then rinse in warm water and runescape accounts polish dry.
7. Clean a stainless steel sink.
Use the same method described to polish chrome on any stainless sink.
8. Keep insects out.
Many pests abhor the acid in lemon. You can chop up the peels and place them along thresholds, windowsills, and near any cracks or holes where ants or pests may be entering.
9. Make a scented humidifier.
If your home suffers from dry heat in the winter, you can put lemon peels in a pot of water and simmer on the lowest stove-top setting to humidify and scent the air.
10. Refresh cutting boards.
Because of lemon’s low pH, it has antibacterial properties that make it a good choice for refreshing cutting boards. After proper disinfecting, give the surface a rub with a halved lemon, let sit for a few minutes, and rinse.
To Eat
11. Keep brown sugar soft.
If your brown sugar often turns into brick sugar, try adding some lemon peel (with traces of pulp and pith removed) to help keep it moist and easy to use. (For all recipes using lemon peel, try to use organic lemons—and scrub the peel well to remove any residues and wax.)
12. Make zest.
Zest is the best! Zest is simply grated peel; it is the epitome of lemon essence—it can be used fresh, dried, or frozen. If you don’t have an official zester, you can use the smallest size of a box grater. (If you know you will be using lemons for zest, it is easier to grate the runescape money zest from the lemon before juicing them.) To dry zest, spread it on a towel and leave out until dried, then store in a jar. To FREEze, use a FREEzer-safe container. Use zest in salads, marinades, baked goods, grain dishes, etc.
13. Make vegan lemon biscotti.
Once you’ve made some zest, make these Vegan Lemon Biscotti cookies. De-li-cious!
14. Make twists.
Strips of peel, aka twists, are good in cocktails, sparkling water, and tap water. Use a vegetable peeler to make long strips, or use a knife and cut the peel into long strips, cutting away the white pith, which is bitter. These can also be frozen in a FREEzer-safe container or bag.
15. Make lemon extract powder.
Make zest or twists (above), making sure to remove any of the white pith, and dry the strips skin-side down on a plate until they’re dried, about three or four days. Put in a blender (or spice grinder) and pulverize into a powder. Use the powdered peel in place of extract or zest in recipes.
16. Make lemon sugar.
You can make lemon extract powder (see above) and add it to sugar, or you can use fresh twists, put them in a jar with sugar and let the peel’s buy wow gold oil infuse the sugar.
17. Make lemon pepper.
Mix lemon extract powder (see above) with freshly cracked pepper.
18. Make candied lemon peel.
Orange or grapefruit peel can be candied, too. Yum. Candied peels are pretty easy to make, and can be eaten plain, or can be dipped in melted chocolate, used in cake, cookie, candy, or bread recipes. These recipes for candied citrus and ginger use Sucanat, the most wholesome sugar you can buy.
For Beauty
19. Lighten age spots.
Many folk remedies suggest using lemon peel to help lighten age spots. Apply a small piece to the affected area and leave on for an hour.
20. Soften dry elbows.
Use a half lemon sprinkled with baking soda on elbows; just place your elbow in the lemon and twist the lemon (as if you are juicing it) for several minutes. Rinse and dry.
21. Use on your skin.
Lemon peels can be very lightly rubbed on your face for a nice skin tonic; then rinse (and be careful around your eyes).
22. Make a sugar scrub.
Mix 1/2 a cup of sugar with finely chopped lemon peel and enough olive oil to make a paste. Wet your body in the shower, turn off the water, and massage the sugar mix all over your skin; then cheap wow gold rinse and be soft!

5 Ways to Keep Learning
But really, whether you want to or not, you’re going to carry on learning throughout your life. You’ll learn new skills at work. You might learn how to be a parent. You may take up DIY, or simply learn enough about your home to maintain it in good condition. You might well have a hobby which means mastering a new skill.
Some people never give learning much thought. They pick up bits and pieces in an unstructured way, learning just enough to get through the job at hand. Often, they just shrug and give up – calling out a handyman for every little thing, or asking a colleague at work to do something “difficult” for them.
If you ignore the important of continuous learning, you’ll find:
* You waste money. You keep needing to pay for professional help – when it’s a task that you could’ve learnt how to do yourself. Maybe you “can’t cook” so you always eat out.
* You miss opportunities. You get passed over for promotions, because you don’t show any interest in picking up new skills at work.
* You lose a great source of fun and fulfillment. There’s enormous satisfaction to be found in learning things and really getting a new concept or skill. Don’t let any bad memories of school put you off.
So how can you keep on learning throughout your runescape accounts adult life?
Find a Career Which Matches Your Interests
If you’re in a so-so job which doesn’t really engage you, you won’t be very motivated to keep growing your skills and knowledge. Look for a career which hooks into the stuff which interests you: it’ll be more rewarding in itself, but it’ll also be an easier, faster way for you to progress.
You might already know what you’d love to do. What’s holding you back? If you’re not sure how to get from where you are to where you want to be, then a great starting point for your learning journey is to map out the path!
Look Into Training Courses at Work
Many larger employers offer formal training opportunities, ranging from in-house courses to financial support with a college degree. Talk to your HR department to find out what’s on offer, or mention to your manager that you’re interested in learning more about a specific area.
If you work for a runescape money small employer, don’t rule out the value of informal training. Perhaps you can get a colleague to teach you a new software package, or maybe you can get some books on expenses.
Attend Conferences and Seminars
It’s often hard to find time to sit down and read a book, work through a guide or practice a new skill: life just seems to get in the way. By heading to a conference or seminar, you’ve blocked out time on your schedule for learning and networking.
When you’re signing up to attend particular panels, don’t just go for familiar topics. Pick something which falls outside your comfort zone: even if some of it goes over your head, you’re almost certain to pick up some fresh new ideas.
Get Into a Habit of Regular Reading
One of the most powerful ways to learn is to read regularly. Ask friends or colleagues for recommendations, and buy or borrow some books. Get into the habit of reading at a particular time of day – perhaps on the wow gold train to work, during your lunch break, or before dinner in the evenings. This doesn’t need to cost you anything – use your local library, download free books onto your Kindle or ask to borrow from friends.
If you drive to work, how about getting audio books to listen to? These are a great way to fill up time where you’d otherwise be a bit bored but when you need your hands and eyes for what you’re doing. (A lot of people like to listen to audio content in the gym or while doing chores, too.) Again, you don’t have to spend money: try this list of free audio booksfor a good starting point.
Challenge Yourself
Finally, give yourself a challenge or two. Next time you say, “I can’t”, stop and think. Maybe you really can’t cook … yet. There’s nothing stopping you learning.
Sure, you might find that you just don’t enjoy cooking. But at least you’ll know that you could put together a meal if you had to.
We start at a zero skill level for everything in life. Just because you can’t currently play the piano doesn’t mean that you’ll never be able to. With the internet, there’s a huge amount of content on every topic you can think of – and loads of it will be aimed buy wow gold at beginners

Sha Na Na alumni gather for NY reunion
"It feels so natural that I just have not had as much fun or felt in harmony with anybody since," said Robert Leonard, a longtime Hofstra University linguistics professor who in 1969 helped form Sha Na Na. He spent two years with the band before being offered a fellowship to Columbia Graduate School that led to a career in education.
Leonard, who sang bass and can be seen in the Woodstock movie wearing the group's signature gold lame jacket, is bringing together former members of the group for a performance Saturday at a celebration marking Hofstra's 75th anniversary. Other performers on the bill include Public Enemy, Blue Oyster Cult, Fountains of Wayne, Lisa Lisa, and hip-hop star Trey Songz
"It's being billed as from doo-wop to hip-hop," Leonard said of the bill, a somewhat eclectic runescape accounts lineup not dissimilar to Woodstock, where folkies like Arlo Guthrie and Richie Havens performed as well hard-rockers like The Who and Ten Years After.
Three longtime members of Sha Na Na actually still perform more than 50 shows a year, but this is the first time that Leonard and two others, David Garrett, now a New York City businessman, and Elliot Cahn, a California entertainment attorney who once managed Green Day, will be back on stage together.
"This is a delight; I left in 1973," said the 62-year-old Cahn during a break in rehearsals Friday at a Long Island hotel conference room. "The last two times I sang in public were at memorial services for friends of mine who died."
Born in the era of flower power, Sha Na Na's founders were all college students at Columbia University who shared a love of harmonies inspired by the 1950s doo-wop groups. The group's name comes from the chorus of the Silhouettes' hit, "Get a Job (Sha Na Na Na)." During one of their first performances in New York City in 1969, Hendrix saw their act and became enamored, said Leonard. The guitar virtuoso runescape money immediately recommended to the Woodstock organizers that they be added to the lineup.
Despite their appearance as "greasers," the group quickly won acceptance from their musical peers and soon after playing Woodstock, they signed a recording deal.
"People like Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead, they really understood what we were doing and they were friends of ours," Leonard said.
The group later appeared in 97 episodes of their own music variety show that aired from 1977 to 1981; by that time Leonard, Cahn and Garrett had left the group, replaced by Jon "Bowzer" Bauman and others. Bauman, a popular fixture on the TV show, has since left the group and will not be appearing with them this weekend.
Another founding member who had a scheduling conflict and won't be appearing this weekend is Alan Cooper, who now is a distinguished professor of biblical studies at the Jewish Theological Seminary.
"Let's face it, we were a bright bunch of guys," said Jocko Marcellino, an original member wow gold who still tours with Sha Na Na 40 years later.
In 1978, the group appeared as "Johnny Casino and the Gamblers," in the movie musical "Grease," which featured several Sha Na Na rock covers. The soundtrack album was nominated for a Grammy and was certified platinum eight times.
"What Sha Na Na did was put the fun back in rock 'n' roll at a time when rock 'n' roll was starting to take itself a little too seriously," said Bruce "Cousin Brucie" Morrow, a legendary New York City disc jockey. "I'd have to say they were very influential in many ways. They never got the flowers, never got the bouquets they deserved."
Marcellino said he was amazed how well the group meshed during Friday's rehearsal. "It's like they were in the other room. We're all just falling into it all over again," he said.
As he looked at his colleagues giving press interviews after the rehearsal, Marcellino summed up the group's story:
"We started it as a campy thing in campus and it still is the essence of it — guys hanging out doo-wopping, just like we were back on buy wow gold the stoop."

Why Heartbreak Hurts: Your Brain On Love
The researchers used MRI scans to study what parts of the brain were activated in the recently heartbroken. They recruited ten women and five men who were recently dumped by people with whom they were still intensely in love. Each participant filled out a survey called the Passionate Love Scale to assess the degree to which they experienced feelings of romantic love. Finally, while in the MRI machine, participants looked at a photograph of their dumper buy wow gold while the scientists took pictures of their brain activity.
While viewing photographs of their rejecters, the subjects reported feelings of obsession, protest, passion, anger, hope, regret, and despair. The area of the brain that lit up during the MRI scan, included the limbic regions associated with basic reward and survival mechanisms. Additionally, the researchers saw activity in the forebrain regions known to be associated with gain and loss, addiction, cocaine cravings, addiction, and emotional regulation.
Rejection by a lover is a powerful negative experience that can cause people to slide into depression or commit extreme acts. Some people have even committed suicide or homocide in response to rejection. The research presented here helps illustrate why rejection hurts so much and where the need to be accepted by a lover originates.
The authors of the study explain cheap wow gold that the limbic reward system involved in feelings of romantic love and rejection are associated with biological survival mechanisms and imperatives, which suggest an evolutionary link between the feeling of romantic love and the naturally selected need to pass on one’s genes. This notion is reinforced by the concurrent activity of brain centers involved in addiction.
Our brains do their utmost to convince us to reproduce, even going so far as to cause extreme emotional pain and agony when we are denied the opportunity with people we have identified as good mates. Conversely, the involvement of emotional regulation centers certainly indicates that love is more than a simple craving or biological imperative; it is a complex emotion fully integrated into our consciousnesses, the runescape gold nature of which fMRI machines still cannot fully illuminate.
